FAQs

What is the source of your data?

All data is obtained American Community Survey (ACS). The latest income statistics are from the 2023 ACS 5-year estimates, encompassing income, poverty, language, and other key demographics. These estimates are derived from data collected between 2019 and 2023 for the year 2023.

Will I be charged a subscription fee? How do I receive updates?

No, each purchase is a one-time deal, so you won't have subscription fatigue. Census.gov data isn't regularly updated (typically once a year in December). If you need ongoing updates, contact us for assistance.

Do you support an API or other data formats instead of Excel™ files?

Yes, we can provide CSV or JSON. We can also support API access at an additional fee. Please get in touch with us, so we can understand more about your requirements.

I am not seeing the dataset for the geographical location I need. Do you have that dataset?

Let us know by contacting us on hello@demographicsdata.us or using the contact form link below.

How soon will I receive the data after purchase?

You will receive an Excel™ file for your purchased county/city/zip code data file to your email address after payment.

What is ZCTA? Is this the same as zip code?

A ZCTA stands for "ZIP Code Tabulation Area." It's a statistical geographic entity developed by the United States Census Bureau for tabulating summary statistics from Census data. ZCTAs are roughly equivalent to zip codes, but they are constructed using Census blocks rather than the delivery routes used by the United States Postal Service (USPS) for zip codes. ZCTAs are used for demographic analysis and reporting purposes.

Zip codes (Zone Improvement Plan codes) are postal codes used by USPS to efficiently deliver mail. They are primarily used for mail delivery purposes, organizing mail routes, and facilitating the sorting and delivery of mail.

Our datasets are meant to focus on broad demographic analysis. If you need zip code data for targeted marketing purposes, please let us know and we can include a zip code to the ZCTA mapping table in the report.

How reliable is the data?

The American Community Survey (ACS) is the most current, reliable, and accessible data source for local statistics on critical planning topics such as age, children, veterans, commuting, education, income, and employment. Some notable points:

1) The ACS surveys 3.5 million households, visits 20,000 group quarter facilities, and covers 35+ topics.
2) It supports over 300 Federal government uses, informing over $675 billion of spending annually.
3) Data are estimates collected from a sample, with margins of error provided for interpretation at a 90% confidence level.
